For all of you who may know me or may not know me, I am a full time restaurant server. Now here's a little inside to what serving is for all of you who have no idea what it's like or have never worked in the restaurant business before. It it running around working your ass off for little to no money. Don't get me wrong, since I have started serving over the past 7 years, i have: purchased a car, moved out twice, supported myself for 4 years, and have able to live on a job where it is cash in hand every night. But i kinda have some stuff I want to get out there. Yes I make money, yes it is addicting, but it is really hard. When you have 5-8 tables all running your ass back and forth and complaining about stuff or thinking just because I don't bring you want you want a minute and a half after you ask me for it, it doesn't mean i don't care. It just means I have about 20 other people I'm waiting on asking for the exact same thing. Take a look around on where you are, you are NOT the only person in the whole restaurant. And I'm not trying to be an asshole and yes I signed up for this, I have been doing this since I was 16 years old, I am now 23. Maybe this is why I'm writing this now. It gets really frustrating when I'm trying as much as possible to cater to your needs. But honestly, if you think the service was good and you had a good meal isn't that why you came out to eat in the first place? Yes, sometimes you may need napkins and it takes a minute, or your refill isn't filled the second you finish it. But take a step back and try to put yourself in my shoes. Restaurant is a tough job, and it takes some skill to work in it. If you think you can do a better job by all means give it a shot. But please leave a tip. Us servers (at least in the greater Pittsburgh area) only make $2.83/hour. What that means is if you don't tip, we can't eat or feed our children or pay our bills, or put gas in our car. Our economy is suffering and in result so are the food service industries, please dig a little deeper into your pocket and throw and extra $1 or $2 on the table it may just be a $1 or $2 to you but it means the world to us. Thank you!
